We've had some really great contributions to our language files since we started supporting translations in NodeBB core, although keeping up with the changes has been quite hard. Specifically:

    • There was never really any way to check if any changes were out of date, except trying out every page of NodeBB in a new language and looking for incorrect language tags
    • When a language tag was missing, the system ended up showing the unattractive "code" behind the tag, instead of a sensible fallback like English

To that end, we've registered NodeBB as a project on Transifex! Using a web site like this will allow us to see at a glance how complete each language is, and allow translators to quickly see which strings need translating, and which do not.

Jenkler when we modify a couple phrases, they show you the old translation, right? Hopefully you don't have to translate it from blank each time ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

julian yep, we don't translate from blank, only modified phrases (sometimes if modification phrase is small transifex show old translation as a tip)

Ok, good to know. Occasionally we tweak little things like grammar or wording, and it's a relief to know that the translators don't have to start from scratch for those phrases ๐Ÿ˜…

I noticed that some modals are using hardcoded strings in v1.1.2. Is it still the same in newer versions?

pichalite It could be problem with Persona theme. I'm using version 1.1.2, files I had in mind are located in [nodebb install directory]/public/templates/partials/modals, but I can't seem to find them on Github. I've fixed it on my side but I would also like to contribute these fixes to public repository if they weren't fixed already.

pichalite Problem is in Persona theme, not NodeBB itself.

                                      Good day!
How often are the translations updated?

I want to do translation into Russian.

I'm running back through the Spanish translation files, and there's actually a lot that isn't translated (the strings are in English). I'm going to start going through and cleaning things up.

Is there anyone I should be working with, or checking in with, or should I just submit my edits and reviews of content?
